Effect of Interval Sprint and Endurance Training on Anaerobic and Aerobic Function in Prepubescent Children and Adolescent Youth

This study supports the growing body of scientific evidence that pre-pubescents exhibit reduced anaerobic trainability and although they are trainable aerobically, currently employed aerobic activities effective for adolescents are not as effective for pre-pubescents. Rather, pre-pubescents improve aerobically with an interval sprint-training stimulus. Currently employed physical education programs for pre-pubescents may need to be modified to fit this age group to increase fitness and promote an active adult lifestyle.
