Abstract
dc:descriptionHoffmann's insistence on these aspects in all of his narrative contributions to the AMZ reveals an agenda significantly different from what is usually attributed to this well-known advocate of instrumental music. It exemplifies Hoffmann's search for an adequate expression of his insights on opera, and his efforts to contribute to an understanding of the peculiarities of this genre and the new developments of opera music, thus creating a highly original form of innovative music criticism.
