Re-Appropriation of Patriarchal Female Myths in the Short Fiction of Luisa Valenzuela

dc:description"Chapter Four investigates Valenzuela's ""Si esto es la vida, yo soy Caperucita Roja"" a re-vision of the fairy tale ""Little Red Riding Hood."" I present a brief review of critical theories concluding with a feminist interpretation of this classic tale, establishing that the classical versions were misogynistic and repressed female sexuality. My reading of Valenzuela's story reveals that she has created a female quest and initiation story in which the protagonist discovers her mature sexual identity as a result of the sexual experiences she encounters along the path to Grandmother's house.
