Retirement, Life Satisfaction, and Pet Ownership: Please Don't Take My Sunshine Away

When results from non owners were analyzed by retirement status, significant differences appeared from the early to late stages of retirement on the two life satisfactional scales and on freedom to travel, perceived health, and satisfaction with health with the early stage being higher. These results suggest that pets may provide a buffer against declining satisfaction.
