An Analysis of the Production Efficiency of Division I -A Intercollegiate Athletic Programs

Abstract

dc:description

Rather than limit their growth to the confines of profit maximization tenants, Division I-A intercollegiate athletic programs should be evaluated within the context of the more appropriate Niskanen model. Such assessments will enable administrators to operate their program in the best interest of the students, faculty, alumni and fans by facilitating program growth and facility upgrades while effectively reducing the stigma associated with profits or deficits on balance sheets.
