What Causes North Pole Ice Thickness to Change
Abstract
dc:descriptionA Monte Carlo simulation of submarine sonar sampling of North Pole ice drafts demonstrated that the mean ice draft and standard deviation may be estimated within +/-0.2 m with the first 3% of a typical 50--60,000 observation data set. An additional 30% of the observations were needed to improve the accuracy of the sample mean and standard deviation to +/-0.1 m.
