Study of Plasma/flowing Liquid Metal Interactions
Abstract
dc:descriptionInteraction between an ion beam and flowing liquid Li has been studied in the FLIRE facility as a first step towards a plasma/flowing liquid metal interaction experiment. The retained fraction of implanted helium transport was quantified as a function of energy and velocity, yielding the expected behavior. Such retention data was used in combination with a simple transport model to estimate an effective diffusion coefficient. Measurements of trapped helium content released upon thermal annealing are presented as well, showing that the possibility of long-term helium trapping exists. For the case of hydrogen, preliminary results are presented, showing that the measurement can be made if more experiments are performed under more controlled experimental conditions. A more in-depth study regarding hydrogen will be required.
