dc:description

This study in divided into five chapters. Chapter one provides an introduction to the study. Chapter three presents a scholarly study of Korean traditional music, which includes overview of the types of music, and philosophical and aesthetic views of Korean music. Chapter four focuses on several flute works by Korean composers: Sori for flute solo (1988) by Isang Yun, Poem for flute solo (1978) by Kyung-sun Suh, and Yellow Wind for flute and computer (2001) by Minsoo Cho. These works are analyzed briefly, in order to demonstrate the Korean musical elements and cross-cultural elements from the scores. The changes in the composer's musical style, aesthetic priorities, and philosophical approaches throughout his compositional career in Europe are discussed.
