Amino Acid Transporters in Arabidopsis Thaliana

Abstract

dc:description

Two novel amino acid transporters, LHT1 and ART1, were identified from the Arabidopsis EST cDNA library by complementation. LHT1 is a lysine and histidine transporter, and ART1 is an arginine and aromatic amino acid transporter. ART1 seemed to possess transport activity for IAA and other aromatic amino acid derivatives. Two T-DNA tagged amino acid transport mutants in Arabidopsis were identified. In both mutants, T-DNA and the mutant phenotype are associated, and the insertion sites of T-DNA in both mutants do not appear to be allelic. Therefore, T-DNA can be used as a molecular marker for molecular cloning.
