Festivales De Muerte: Pampa Chica Y Los Origenes De La Civilizacion en Los Andes Centrales

Abstract

dc:description

I present that data, analysis and interpretations in ten chapters. Chapter 1 and Chapter 10 are the Introduction and the Conclusions, respectively. Chapter 2 is a critical review of anthropological theories about the relationship between death, ritual, and power and an exploration of this relationship in two Late Prehispanic and Early Colonial Central Andean cases. Chapter 3 reviews archaeological studies about death. Chapter 4 is a description of the geographic and historical contexts of Pampa Chica, as well as a description of the Pampa Chica site. Chapter 5 describes the excavations carried out at the site, its stratigraphic history, and the site formation processes. Chapter 6 describes and analyzes Pampa Chica's architecture. Chapter 7 describes and analyzes the activity areas at Pampa Chica. Chapter 8 describes and analyzes Pampa Chica's mortuary remains. Chapter 9 compares Pampa Chica with earlier and later cases. Several appendixes---included in a CD attached to this thesis---present the results of the analyses of the excavated materials.
