Consonant Loss Profile and Perceptual Confusions for Hearing-Impaired Listeners in Noise

The results of experiment III showed that consonant recognition performance of three HI benefited from NAL-R gain, whereas performance of three other HI were affected negatively. The effect of gain was not consistent for a given CV across HI, but was listener-dependent. The CLP comparing gain and no gain conditions between HI and NH indicated that audibility was not a major factor for poorer performance on the F CV set. The CP analysis showed that for most of target syllables the major confusions were evoked by the same competitors for both gain and no-gain conditions, but for others completely different CV syllables competed with the targets.
