Space and *Representation in Chicago's Near West Side: A Discourse Analysis
Abstract
dc:descriptionDiscourses of eutopia and dystopia act in unison to rationalize, justify and legitimate the hegemonic ideotopic renderings of neighborhood change and the pursuit of the objectives of a project that is transforming the inner city according to the material interests and ideological conceptions of powerful political actors. In effect, the mobilization of discursive eutopias and dystopias in the forging of understandings of social relationships and spatial practices in the inner city has transposed racist and classist ideological elements onto the built environment.
