An Analysis of Sports -Oriented Development Discourse in St. Louis, Missouri
Abstract
dc:descriptionSports oriented development has been an important political economic topic in urban studies for many years. Most researchers studying sports oriented development however fail to comprehend the powerful discourse, to legitimate this development. This research analyzes the production of a sports oriented development discourse by a growth coalition in St. Louis, Missouri. It examines newspaper articles, economic reports and text from home pages as data in the research and uses the object grid as the method for analyzing the discourse. I unveil a complex sports oriented development discourse consisting of living organisms, ancillary living organisms, nourishment, homes, rescuers, villains and sports fans.
