Oral Insulin-Like Growth Factor-I and Development of the Small Intestine in the Neonatal Piglet

Given that IGF-I modulation of intestinal development did not lead to an increase in overall piglet growth, we conclude that the effects of IGF-I in the normal, healthy neonate are modest. However, since IGF-I stimulates intestinal growth and development without undesirable systemic effects, it may be a beneficial therapeutic agent for infants with compromised intestinal function.
