Chapter Four addresses the physiological T cell responses that can be elicited by peptide/MHC recognition. We demonstrated that the endogenously derived peptide, dEV8, functioned as both an agonist and an antagonist of T cells derived from 2C TCR transgenic mice. Although the exact mechanism underlying the opposing effects of the same pepMHC complex remains to be determined, differences in accessory molecules or coreceptors on the T cell surface may have a significant impact on T cell signaling and function.
