The Consolidation of Empire: The Augustan Plan for Administrating the Provinces
Abstract
dc:description"The reexamination of well known Augustan documents along with recently discovered inscriptions from Gaul, Spain and Syria reveal the component parts of Augustus' administrative framework and his use of the census as the primary vehicle for imperial control. His use of these allowed the first Roman emperor to knit together widely separated and diverse portions of the empire into a single body. This study not only addresses the consolidation of the provinces into the Roman Empire but also contributes to the larger scholarly discussion regarding how provincial populations became increasingly ""Romanized."""
