The Zsm-39 Zeolite Dodecasil-3c: A New Ferroic Material
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe structure and ferroic properties of pyridine dodecasil-3C (Py-D3C) were investigated. A combination of optical crystallography and X-ray diffraction techniques were used to determine that the ambient temperature phase possessed orthorhombic Fdd2 symmetry. The domain structure of Py-D3C was found to consist of lamellar domain platelets, and the twin law that transforms one lamellar domain into an adjacent parallel lamellar domain was determined to be an operation that switches the long c crystal axis with the short a crystal axis across the domain boundary while leaving the b axis, parallel to the domain boundary, invariant. Uniaxial compressive force on a sample cut parallel to $\{$111$\}$ caused the domain boundary planes to switch orientations, indicating that Py-D3C is a ferroelastic material.
