Surface Mediated Transport and Reactions

Abstract

dc:description

The second system qualitatively evaluated surfaces for sustaining flames in confined sub-millimeter systems. A method for successfully preparing surfaces of ceramic (Al2O3) combustors to sustain homogeneous flames was developed. The transient and steady-state flames were characterized by high-speed, still-frame and chemiluminescence imaging, and acoustic analysis. It was found that transient flames display hydrodynamic instabilities and eventually form stable, discontinuous flame structures.
