Effect of Nutrition and Management on Marbling Deposition, Carcass Value, and Profitability in Feedlot Cattle

Three feedlot experiments were conducted to examine the effect of dietary vitamin A on carcass quality and serum retinol (ROL) in cattle. Diets were calculated to contain 2300 (LVA) or 7250 IU/kg (HVA). No treatment differences existed for MS across all trials. Serum ROL was greater among calf-fed heifers and steers fed HVA. Serum ROL and MS were not correlated. Dietary intakes of vitamin A at three times NRC recommendations increased serum retinol, but did not affect carcass quality in Angus x Simmental feedlot cattle.
