Trophinin: Expression and Regulation in the Porcine Uterus and Embryo During the Time of Embryo Implantation

Reverse Transcriptase (RT) PCR analysis showed that trophinin mRNA was only present in both bred and non-bred porcine uterus. Over 80% of the porcine trophinin gene is homologous to human trophinin. Trophinin was expressed systemically through out the uterus and the presence of an embryo had no effect on expression. Trophinin mRNA transcripts were detected at day 14 of the estrous cycle, and expression was maintained until day 24 in animals that had established pregnancy. Porcine embryos show expression of trophinin around day 14 of development. Progesterone induced the expression of trophinin in ovariectomized gilts given hormone replacements. Our result shows that trophinin is expressed in the porcine uterus and blastocyst around the time of implantation, which suggest that it may be involved in the regulation of implantation.
