Abstract
dc:descriptionStrain gages, attached to all specimens tested, indicated cracking in concrete occurred in a narrow band. Regions of high plastic strain were found in the plane of cracking, while adjacent areas experienced decreases in strain levels with cracking. Strain gages indicated cracking in concrete slabs initiated on the bottom of the slab and propagated along the slab's bottom, before propagating up through its depth.
