Development of Arrival Time Based Uniform Delay Models for Oversaturated Signalized Intersections
Abstract
dc:descriptionComparisons of control delays show that HCM estimates were not significantly different from the simulated filed data generated by CORSIM for 12 scenarios out of 28 for zero initial queue conditions, and 14 scenarios out of 28 for nonzero initial queue conditions, however for the remaining scenarios they were significantly different. On the contrary, the control delays from the proposed delay models were not significantly different from simulated field data generated by CORSIM for 28 scenarios out of 28 for zero initial queue conditions, and 28 scenarios out of 28 for nonzero initial queue conditions. Statistical comparisons for Arrival Type 6 were not conducted since there might not be practical meaning for Arrival Type 6 in oversaturated traffic conditions. The results of sensitivity analysis for the proposed model to various green to cycle ratios showed that delay decreased as g/C ratio increased, as expected. Furthermore, the simulated data and the proposed models support that there are platoon impacts on delay in oversaturated conditions. The proposed models were used to develop a set of new progression adjustment factors (PF) for oversaturated conditions that can be used with the HCM delay model.
