An Economic Analysis of Flood Easements: The Case of the LaGrange Reach of the Illinois River

Abstract

dc:description

The results of the case study indicate that total flood costs may be reduced by implementing flood easements. Thus, the null hypothesis is rejected. Model results are robust to changes in the estimated dollar damages, yet extremely sensitive to changes in the hydrological estimates. The modeling approach may be applied to other large river floodplains.
