Scope and Scale Economies for Multi-Product Firms: Microeconometric Evidence From Firm-Level Panel Data

Panel data show significant firm differences in output mixes and production efficiency. Finn-specific effects are found to be positive and significant. That is, technology of a firm that produces corn, soybeans and wheat can be different than one that produce only corn, or corn and soybeans. Even though this study has examined the cost structure of samples of Illinois agricultural farm firms, the quadratic cost models have general applicability.
