Developmental Cell Death and Androgens Affect Neuron Number in the Primary Visual Cortex of Male and Female Rats
Abstract
dc:descriptionFinally, I investigated the effect of neonatal hormone manipulations (females + estradiol, females + DHT) upon cell death in the developing rat posterior cortex. DHT implantation in females decreased the proportion of cells dying relative to control females (similar to control males), while estrogen implantation in females failed to alter cell death relative to control females. Thus, androgens are responsible for greater cell survival in the developing cortex.
