Large Scale Hydrodynamic Simulations of Emulsions and Foams
Abstract
dc:descriptionThis work complements previous studies by Metsi and by Zinchenko and Davis. In extending the work of Metsi, this study considers non-unit viscosity ratio for large scale monodisperse systems, higher dispersed phase volume fractions, and tighter simulation error tolerance. Zinchenko and Davis performed three-dimensional at volume fractions up to 55%. Owing to this limitation, their study exhibited no disorder to order transitions, deviation from homogenous linear shear, or formation of thin liquid films. Though the results of the present study come from a two-dimensional model, real systems will exhibit the same qualitative behavior; however, the transition points will be shifted due to the different packing arrangements possible with three-dimensional systems.
