Gregor: A Model Object Base Supporting Software Configuration Management
Abstract
dc:descriptionSoftware Configuration Management (SCM) seeks to control the evolution of software systems. This dissertation presents an object base, Gregor, that incorporates SCM facilities into a data management facility for a software development environment. The object model that underlies Gregor uses classes to define different kinds of SCM entities, methods to define the operations applicable to the entities, and inheritance to denote generalization relationships between the classes. Gregor's object model is a more general and comprehensive model of SCM than has previously been presented, and its implementation shows how SCM may be more simply, automatically, and comprehensively supported. The dissertation presents the principal classes in Gregor, describes their intent, structure and functionality, and explains how they support SCM.
