HiPIP: High -Performance Invocation Protection
Abstract
dc:descriptionWe choose three algorithms for our HiPIP implementation. We perform an empirical analysis on a Linux cluster connected with 100 Mbps Ethernet. For a null RMI, the plaintext latency is 150 microseconds. Our HiPIP implementation adds 6 microseconds with a latency of 156 microseconds, whereas the DES encrypted null RMI is almost 200 times the plaintext latency: over 29 milliseconds. We develop an extrapolation model which allows us to predict HiPIP's performance under different cluster configurations. Finally, we run three distributed applications with three levels of security: plaintext, HiPIP and DES. We show that HiPIP's performance is comparable to plaintext and two to four orders of magnitude better than DES.
