Subsurface electromagnetic (EM) methods are applied to obtain underground information that is not available from surface observations. This research develops numerical methods for subsurface electromagnetic modeling. The dissertation includes: (1) fast one-dimensional forward and inverse modeling, which are commonly used in the oil industry, (2) a fast volume integral equation method, which is used to study the electromagnetic wave propagation in axisymmetric inhomogeneous media, and (3) a systematic approach to solving low-frequency scattering problems using the method of moments (MOM). These methods provide important modeling tools for the subsurface exploration.
