Multiuser Communications With Relaying and User Cooperation

Abstract

dc:description

In the remainder of the dissertation, the impact of relaying and user cooperation on downlink of wireless networks is investigated. Three two-user relay broadcast channels are studied from an information-theoretic viewpoint. These channels represent fundamental units of downlink systems that exploit relaying and user cooperation. Achievable regions for these channels are derived. Upper bounds on the capacity regions are also derived and are shown to be tighter than the standard cut-set bounds. Furthermore, capacity regions are established for some special classes of channels. The results illustrate that relaying and user cooperation are powerful techniques in improving the capacity of broadcast channels.
