Regarding quasi-periodic layers detected above 100 km in Puerto Rico, our observations show that descending signatures can be explained as the consequence of descending plasma layers that are being dumped at lower E-region altitudes due to the action of gravity waves. Overall, a striking result is the lack of QP echoes in the Puerto Rican sector compared to other mid-latitude observation sites. Finally, we conclude that current QP models contain the right ideas to account for QP signatures, but our data strongly suggest that one model is not sufficient to explain different QP events.
