Abstract
dc:descriptionThe theoretical foundations of CXD are described in Chapter 1 as derived from the kinematical formulation for x-ray diffraction and from the temporal and spatial coherence of radiation. The antiphase domain structure of Cu 3Au is described, along with the associated reciprocal-space structure which is measured by CXD. CXD measurements place relatively stringent requirements on the coherence properties of the beam and on the detection mechanism of the experiment; these requirements and the means by which they have been met are delineated in Chapter 2. The results and interpretation of a set of Cu 3Au measurements are presented in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 describes the Gerchberg-Saxton and the hybrid input-output (HIO) algorithms for phase retrieval and shows the results of image reconstruction tests with simulated Cu 3Au CXD, including the effect of oversampling in reciprocal space.
