X -Ray Diffraction Rotational Microrheology

Rotational single particle tracking microrheology can be used to find the storage and dissipative behavior of viscoelastic fluids of much higher viscosity than translational single particle tracking. The technique of X-ray diffraction rotational tracking has the ability to track the rotational motion of single crystals to a resolution of 80murad with a time resolution of 0.02 seconds. Rotational microrheology studies of single crystal Alumina tracer particles suspended in liquid decanoic acid show subdiffusive behavior transitioning towards diffusive behavior with a crossover time of 20-50 sec. The same system shows superdiffusive motion in the solid state below the glass transition temperature of the decanoic acid.
