Studies of the Semileptonic Decays of D Mesons

We present new measurements of the branching ratios and decay distributions for the decays D+ → K¯ *0ℓ+nuℓ. We observe an asymmetry in the K¯*0 angular decay distribution that we interpret as evidence for a previously unobserved s-wave K-pi+ amplitude that interferes with the K¯*0. These measurements are taken from the data collected by the Fermilab charm photoproduction experiment E831(FOCUS) during 1996--97.
