Dropout and Resilient Students: A Focus on a Chicago Urban High School

This study concerns interviews of high school persisters, transfer students, and dropouts. The intention of this research was to examine reasons why some students at a Chicago urban high school succumb to the negative influences of their environment and drop out or transfer while other students persist through graduation, despite the same general conditions. Parents and teachers' perceptions are also examined to get their views on dropping out and persistence and their roles as parents and teachers. What follows is an opportunity to use a wealth of information from the interviews and to make generalizations about how the issues link to dropping out or persisting.
