Transforming Race: Youth, Schooling, and Identity in South Africa

In response to the solid racial identities postulated by much of multicultural education, this research points to the fluidity and continual reformation and reconstruction of these categories, and the ways in which race and racial identity are both marked and transformed by global cultural flows. In conclusion, this dissertation argues that the practices of multicultural education must respond to this post-colonial world of collision and connection, and discusses implications for pedagogy and curriculum.
