Struggling for Survival: The United Negro College Fund and Private Black Colleges, 1960-1970
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe evidential base for conducting this research relies on primary sources, supplemented by secondary data sources. The research is based upon content analysis of primary sources and archives located at the following four sites: the Rockefeller Archive Center, the Tuskegee University Archives, the UNCF Archives, and the Amistad Research Center. The primary sources available at these sites include manuscript collections of John D. Rockefeller Sr., Jr., III, as well as Dr. Frederick D. Patterson, and the UNCF. The secondary data sources used to support the research include prior published works and scholarly research on PBCs, the history of African-American higher education, and leadership during the modern civil rights movement.
