Sustainability of Parent Involvement in Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs

Results of this study show parent involvement is recognized as an important component of comprehensive intervention that helps students from underserved backgrounds. Parent involvement is not an easy component to implement, yet administrators participating in this study believe that parent involvement is beneficial for parents and students in ways that make the struggle to implement such involvement worthwhile. It is recommended that GEAR UP administrators involve parents in highly engaging activities, such as (a) planning activities for their children or other parents, (b) serving on decision making boards, and (c) recruitment of other parents.
