Abstract
dc:descriptionWhen America does produce some notable works of imaginative fantasy, is by harkening back to the old chapbooks romances. Howard Pyle's King Arthur series incorporates much of the magic and fantasy of old chapbook stories, but nonetheless, his retellings of medieval legends were still constrained by the desire to morally guide children; and they never achieved quite the same flight of fancy as British children's literature.
