Online Health Education Curriculum Evaluation: Differential Findings Among College Students

This is a program evaluation of an on-line health education curriculum intended to prevent harm associated with college student alcohol consumption and related behaviors. Using existing data from 225 higher education organizations and 23,127 individuals manipulated into a clustered randomly assigned post-test only evaluation design the broad-based delivery of alcohol education through the world-wide web is examined. The study finds evidence supporting the use of technology delivered alcohol education along eight self-reported dimensions including: incidents of heavy alcohol consumption, intentional risky behavior, positive expectations of alcohol use, negative expectations of use, being protective of others, readiness to change, negative mental impacts and negative academic consequences. Results build upon past technology delivered alcohol programs among college students and bolster support of the efficacy of brief preventative alcohol interventions among college students.
