A *Validity Narrative: Effects of Reading Skills Diagnosis on Teaching and Learning in the Context of NG TOEFL

Abstract

dc:description

Skills diagnostic assessment has great potential to provide pedagogically useful information for teachers and students. However, the potential of skills diagnosis is subject to the extent to which a set of skills can be sufficiently specified and further to the degree to which it is integrated into curriculum. A more meaningful diagnostic assessment practice can be achieved when it is designed for the diagnostic purpose in the first place. Care needs to be taken to ensure that skills diagnostic assessment does not have negative effects on teaching and learning, such as narrowing the curriculum and teaching to test, especially in high-stake testing serving accountability system.
