Teaching for Aesthetic Experience: A Dual Case Study of the Mediating Influence of Curriculum and Pedagogy on Students' Experiences Visiting an Art Museum
Abstract
dc:descriptionThis dissertation study hopes to contribute to the enduring curiosity about art and aesthetic experience as essentially human endeavors by investigating the potentially educative value of aesthetic experience for young people. It also aims to contribute to the efforts of scholars, such as Elliot Eisner, who seek to understand the intrinsic value of art for education by discussing how aesthetic experience, specifically, may be educationally valuable for its potential to foster deeper understanding of self and the human experience. I will also discuss how teachers might cultivate the educational potential of aesthetic experience.
