Factors That Affect Implementation and Sustainability of a High School Reform Effort: A Case Study

The focus of this case study was to examine the efforts and experiences of one high school when moving to implement and sustain academic teams at the freshman level. This case study focused on the multiple layers of a multifaceted context by examining the rationale for teaming, how the teams were developed and supported over time, and the perception of stakeholders as to the results of teaming. This level of analysis has resulted in conclusions that will assist in providing practitioners a much clearer understanding of the variables that affect implementing and sustaining teaming, and in a broader sense a deeper understanding of the factors that affect reform efforts at the high school level.
