Inhibitory Control of Saccadic Eye Movements in Reading: A Neurophysiologically Based Interaction -Competition Theory of Saccade Programming

These results support and extend the I/C theory of saccade initiation and the predicted nature of inhibitory control of eye movement in reading. Further directions for exploring the underlying process of eye movement control in reading are also discussed, including the parametric adjustment of saccade programming in different types of reading tasks, the process of developing reading skills, and implications of the I/C theory for reading education and for identifying reading disability.
