Technology professionals should design systems with a variety of technology based on the needs of users while providing flexibility with respect to; user ability, message type, bandwidth, and backup. Practitioners should consider providing technology specifically for social messaging but not forget to include technology allowing for private communication. Researchers should consider designing research that leads to the development of richness hierarchies and matrices that can assist practitioners in the appropriate selection of communication technology based on factors relating to modes, purpose, and potential barriers.
