Hadroproduction of Charmed Baryon Lambda ---> Proton, Kaon, Pion
Abstract
dc:descriptionProduction of the charmed baryon $\Lambda\sb{\rm c}$ has been observed in n-nucleus collisions at the Proton East area of FNAL. A 5σ peak was seen in the decay mode $\Lambda\sbsp{\rm c}{+}$ $\to$ pK\sp-π\sp+ (and charge congugate). The lifetime was determined to be consistent with the current world average of 0.23 ps, and the cross section for $\Lambda\sbsp{\rm c}{+}$ at $\sqrt{s}$ = 33 GeV was measured to be σ $\cdot$ BR = 2.1 $\pm$ 1.1 ($\pm$.74)μb/nucleon for 0.028 $<$ x$\sb{f}$ $<$ 0.226. The fraction of $\Lambda\sbsp{\rm c}{+}$ / ($\Lambda\sbsp{\rm c}{+}$ + $\Lambda\sbsp{\rm c}{-}$) was estimated to be 78% $\pm$ 18%.
