An Ultrasonic Study of Impurity-Interstitial Complexes in Electron Irradiated Aluminum-Silicon and Aluminum-Silver

Ultrasonic attenuation and velocity measurements were performed to probe the structure and annealing behavior of solute self interstitial complexes in electron irradiated (T -monoclinic defect symmetry is present. The annealing, during Stage II, of this defect species follows a first order rate equation which has a prefactor proportional to the solute concentration. The diaelastic effect associated with this defect is found to be comparable in magnitude and anisotropy to that attributed to -self interstitial dumbbells in pure aluminum. A -monoclinic mixed dumbbell model is examined as a possible explanation for these results.
