Abstract
dc:descriptionOur goal was to study very fast electron transfer and other reactions of excited state of organic dye molecules. Therefore, a transient spectrometer with a time resolution of 36 ps was designed and built; this is described in chapter 2. In the third chapter, intersystem crossing in a cyanine dye, induced by heavy atom counterions and heavy atom containing solvent is discussed. The first description and transient spectroscopy of an intra-ion pair heavy atom effect is given there. The electron transfer reactions of cationic dye-borate salts in nonpolar solution is the subject of chapter 4. It is shown that for the charge recombination electron transfer reaction from borate anion to excited state dye cation no Marcus inverted region behavior is seen. Finally, chapter 5 is concerned with the rotational deactivation of a cyanine dye and its dependence on solvent. An attempt is made to explain this relationship by a very simple momentum transfer model.
