Growth Parameters and Their Use in Predicting Seed Yield in Soybeans (seed-Filling Period, Glycine Max)

Previous research has demonstrated a positive relationship between seed-filling period (SFP) and seed yield in soybean Glycine max (L.) Merrill . Two studies were conducted to (1) predict the gain in seed yield by selection for SFP and (2) to determine which growth parameters are most important to seed yield among breeding lines that differ in their yield-SFP relationship. The experimental design was a randomized complete block of replicated field plots in 1984 and 1985 at Urbana, Illinois on a Flanagan silt loam (Aquic Argiudoll).
