The Management of Retrenchment at Public Universities
Abstract
dc:descriptionPublic universities are facing a period of declining, or at best, steady state resource levels. Significant adaptive responses will be required in order for institutions to operate within funds that are expected to be available. There is a lack of knowledge in the area of retrenchment management which is especially critical in higher education where there is little experience or theoretical knowledge pertaining to management in periods of decline. The purpose of the research was to obtain a better understanding of university responses to fiscal reduction in order to develop an analytical framework to enable the formulation and evaluation of retrenchment processes.
